Vehicare User Manual4

Siri, Shortcuts and widgets

Vehicare works beyond its own window. You can ask Siri about your car, log a reading without opening the app, and keep what’s due on your Home Screen.

Siri

Say “Vehicare” in your request, and Siri knows where to look. Some things to try:

  • “Last service in Vehicare”, or “When was my CR-V last serviced in Vehicare”
  • “What’s due next in Vehicare”, or “When is my next oil change in Vehicare”
  • “How much have I spent on my CR-V in Vehicare”
  • “Log the odometer in Vehicare”
  • “Scan an invoice in Vehicare”
  • “New workshop visit in Vehicare”
  • “Show my CR-V in Vehicare”

Use your vehicle’s nickname, or its make and model. With a vehicle on screen, “this car” works too.

Shortcuts

In the Shortcuts app, search for Vehicare to find its actions. Put them in your own shortcuts, on the Home Screen, in the menu bar on a Mac, or on a schedule.

  • Find last service and Find next service, for a vehicle or a kind of service.
  • Log odometer reading, with a value to log it without opening the app, or without one to ask you.
  • Get maintenance cost, for this year, last year, the last 12 months or all time.
  • New workshop visit, Scan invoice and Import invoice.
  • Open vehicle, Open workshop and Open workshop visit.

An idea: a shortcut that runs when you arrive home, and asks for the odometer once a month. Vehicare’s reminders get better with every reading.

Spotlight

Your vehicles, workshops and visits show up when you search on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. Type a workshop’s name or a kind of service, and pick the result to open it in Vehicare.

Widgets

Add a Vehicare widget the way you add any other, and choose which vehicle it shows.

  • Vehicle: its odometer, its last visit, and what it has cost this year. The medium and larger sizes have a Log odometer button.
  • Next Service: what’s due next and when. The medium and large sizes have a Mark as done button for each service.
  • Maintenance Costs: what the vehicle cost in each of the last five years.

On an iPhone, Vehicle and Next Service also fit on the Lock Screen.

Control Center and the Action button

Two controls can go in Control Center, on the Lock Screen, or on the Action button of an iPhone that has one: Scan Invoice, which opens the camera to scan an invoice, and Log Odometer, for the vehicle you choose. On a Mac, the first is Import Invoice.

Touch and hold Vehicare’s icon on the Home Screen for four more shortcuts: Scan Invoice, Import Invoice, Log Odometer and New Workshop Visit.

Visual Intelligence

Point Visual Intelligence at a paper invoice, and it offers Import into Vehicare. Point it at your dashboard, and it offers to log the odometer reading it sees. Check the number before you save it.

Calendar, Contacts and Handoff

A service added to your calendar, or a workshop added to your contacts, carries a link back to Vehicare. Tap it on any of your devices to open the vehicle or the workshop.

With Handoff, a vehicle or a visit open on one device can be picked up on another: look for Vehicare in the Dock on your Mac, or in the app switcher on your iPad.
